We are accountable for doing the necessary work within our own racial groups to dismantle racism.
Research indicates that audiences are most receptive to messages from same-race peers, particularly when it comes to information about racial identity and racism. We have a facilitator of color and a white facilitator to ensure that, if they wish, people from various racial identities are able to speak to and process with someone who understands their unique challenges. A multi-racial facilitator relationship ensures that we are accountable to our participants and to each other for doing the necessary work within our own racial groups to dismantle racism.
We are accountable for working with our local community.
We are both deeply involved in community work for antiracism. Our community work includes but is not limited to Dr. Newman’s founding and continued leadership in the multimedia series The America We Know, which includes a recorded educational webinar on race and racism in America and a regular column in the Santa Barbara Independent, and Dr. Hutchinson’s founding and continued leadership of the Santa Barbara chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice, an organization that engages in both local and national organizing for racial justice. These efforts are unpaid, and we believe that unpaid work in the community is required by anyone committed to dismantling oppression in all of its forms. We especially encourage people to engage in community work in partnership with marginalized groups to which they do not belong, so they can leverage their privilege for social change.
We are accountable for the quality of our work and its impact.
The quality of our training and consulting work relies on our advanced degrees in our field and our experience as facilitators. Developing programs for organizational and institutional transformation requires an enormous amount of time, and customized, comprehensive, and impactful training is rarely designed with the attention it requires when it is not compensated. We acknowledge the uncomfortable contradiction that exists because paid DEI work inherently profits from systems of oppression, and yet must be fairly compensated in order to be sustainable.
We are accountable for the accessibility of antiracism training for all people.
- We seek to disrupt the DEI Industrial Complex by offering the lowest possible fees for training- you will not find more affordable training from credentialed experts in this field- and if you do, we'll match it!
- We offer an entirely free version of our training for community members.
- We have several training options ranging in price so that every organization or group can choose an option that works within their financial constraints.
- We offer our training in a variety of modalities including entirely online, hybrid, and live so that everyone with every ability and availability can participate.
We welcome conversations about our accountability and encourage anyone with concerns to reach out to us at allytoaccomplice@gmail.com
